Avengers Super Heroes Half Marathon Weekend 2015

Disney, Race Recap By December 21, 2015 Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , No Comments

As usual, we had a couple of days to enjoy the park (sore legs and all). And for something completely different my sister, Laura, her husband, Mel, and their daughter joined us for a day. This gave me the chance to finally make an appointment at the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique and participate in a princess transformation. Because, “ma’am, this is really only for kids” can be told to me so many times before they threaten to kick me out of the park. Jerks.

My niece LOVED being transformed into a princess and thoroughly enjoyed meeting as many pixies, princesses, mice, and any other type of Disney character she could get in line to hug and interview.

The Pixie Dust Challenge 2015

Disney, Race Recap By June 8, 2015 Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , No Comments

Disney has started incorporating challenges into their runDisney events because running isn’t crazy enough. For instance, The Goofy Challenge, is a half marathon on Saturday and a marathon on Sunday. And if you think that sounds too easy then there’s The Dopey Challenge which is a 5k on Thursday, 10k on Friday, half marathon on Saturday, and marathon on Sunday.

You see? There ARE crazier people than me!

The Pixie Dust Challenge will sound essentially normal in comparison; it involves running a 10k on Saturday and a half marathon on Sunday, which is nothing new for me. Knowing what it entailed should have made me wiser. It didn’t. This time Chad joined in on the challenge. Because I’m wearing him down, obviously.

Avengers Super Heroes Half Marathon 2014

While we were waiting in line for a ride in Disney World – you know, right after running twice in 100% humidity, Chad and I got an email about the Inaugural Avengers Super Heroes Half Marathon and I willingly committed to running another Disney event for 2014. Because, Disney.

Then the family decided to squeeze one more in and did the Drop 13 Half Marathon.

So, my sixth half marathon for this year was set to be the Avengers Super Heroes Half Marathon, I would have said “final” but the year isn’t over yet. It was also the longest amount of time between half marathons; January, February, April, June, August, and November. I trained with the goal that I would get under 2 hours, but knowing that I had done it in three other races so far, I didn’t kill myself training either.

DIY Disney Pin Trader Board

Over the past few trips to the two Disney Resorts I randomly started collecting Disney Pins. The pins are kind of like Beanie Babies in that their soul purpose seems to be as a collectible item that’s individual popularity drives up it’s price. Generally I don’t collect things, but there were a handful of pins that I kept seeing and ultimately felt would be neat to own, so it started like a small, but containable virus. I’m trying to keep it in check πŸ™‚

The Glass Slipper Challenge 2014

I don’t remember much, if anything, of the course. I just remember that I was unable to see more than 10 feet in front of me until the sun came up. At that point (it has since been explained to me) the sun burns off the humidity and you can see the air again. Between mile 9 and 10 my brain decided that my knee was going to break. I had a little conversation with myself that I was fine and to stop whining and get my butt to the end. For some reason, at that moment, I looked up and I saw Chad running up the overpass above me. I shouted at him four times before he finally looked down and waived.

Tinker Bell Half Marathon 2014

My nikeplus app time and the actual race time was not off by a lot (I think the discrepancy comes from my not knowing at what point I actually crossed the starting line since it was hard to tell in the dark, with thousands of people, and it was 5 AM)… and still not under 2 hours, which was my goal, but also kick ass because OMG you guys, I ran a half marathon. I was running for two hours. That’s crazy town!

Also, I wore a tutu, which I believe slowed me down about 5 minutes.
